What was your experience like with Compass Homes?
We had an A+ experience with Compass Homes. When we started the process looking for a custom home builder we sought out a few larger well-known Central Ohio builders. As fate would have it, we stumbled across Compass Homes on our way to meet with another builder. Not much later, Compass and another builder were at the top of our list. We felt that both builders would have built us a beautiful, quality home, but we were looking for more. We wanted a relationship with the company that would be building our home. We wanted the builder to want to build our home. We did not want to feel like we were just a number. The way Compass Homes treated us was how they stood apart from the rest. Our building experience has been so fun! This is the second house we have had built, but the first custom home. Seeing all our selections and visions come together has been so exciting. Our designer really listened to us and was so helpful directing us through the design process. Going to the “bone yard” to pick out granite was one of my favorite parts! I feel we have had so much input and communication. For any small issues or changes, Compass has been very quick to respond and remedy. Their staff and contractors have been wonderful to work with. Again, going back to the relationships, we have enjoyed meeting everyone that hung our drywall, installed our windows, ran the electric, installed the stone, etc. All those people made our dream home a reality.
What is your favorite aspect of your new home and why?
The fact we are looking forward to spending many years here with our family making memories is our favorite. This house has things we have always wanted. I love our wood burning fireplace and huge kitchen island. The floor plan works perfectly for our family. I truly believe Compass’s tag line of “more thought per square foot” is true for us. Our last home was actually larger than the one Compass built for us. However, Compass’s floor plan used the square footage in a more effective way. We gained a mudroom and still have walk-in closets in every bedroom. I would never guess it was technically a smaller home.
If you could change one thing, what would you change?
We would have bumped out the back of the house 2 feet. It was an option, but we decided not to do it. Hindsight is always 20/20. But it doesn’t change how much we love the house!
What was your overall experience like?
As mentioned above, overall we have had an outstanding experience and relationship with Compass. They have been a part of our lives for over a year. We purchased land first. We thought we just wanted to see how much a home that we wanted would cost. A few months later we were selling our home and building the next with Compass. I feel like they have been such a big part of our lives. We get the sense they truly care about building our home and us. We couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with.
What advice would you offer someone who is building a home?
Meet with multiple builders. Find the one that fits for you. Find out what their past clients say about them. We knew we were with the right builder when Pam Cinelli made a quick phone call to another family who built a similar floor plan to ours and they said right away that we could come look at their house. A few days later, the owner let us tour their home with Pam. They weren’t even there! They completely trusted Pam with two strangers in their home. This example is a testament to how satisfied their past clients are and how much trust is given to Compass. We also searched out people who built with Compass and all gave positive reviews.
What did you learn during the process?
There is a lot to building a custom home. It is far different from building with a production builder. There is a lot more care and coordination needed.
Who else did you reach out to for building a home and why did you choose Compass Homes?
We reached out to a lot of builders. The short list was Dyanni, 3 Pillar, and Compass.
Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently, if anything?
Besides the bump out, I don’t think we would change a thing. I am so glad we chose Compass to build our house. As mentioned above, I think it was fate for us to find Compass Homes. We could not have asked for a better fit.
