Compass Homes, your Columbus custom home builders, announced our partnership with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Ohio South/Kentucky Chapter. We are excited to bring you a Parade Home like no other in 2014. As your preferred Columbus home builder, we are always thinking of ways to motivate and inspire people, and our new partnership should do just that!
We are excited to profile our next local designer, Vanessa Maloof. We asked Vanessa a few questions because we thought you might enjoy getting to know her design style a little better!
CH: How long have you been in the field of design?
VM: Fashion and Design have been a passion of mine since I was young. In 1986, I received a Bachelor in Interior Design by a Brazilian University and since then I’ve been involved in this field.
CH: What was your very first project?
VM: My first project was a flower shop in Brazil. The owner was looking for a unique and creative way to expose the beauty of different flowers to her customers. The idea was far beyond selling flowers, but teaching her customers how to incorporate fresh flowers into their daily lives. To this day, I still recommend my clients to use flowers as an element of design.
CH: What inspires you?
VM: My inspiration comes from everything that brings simplicity and elegance together.
CH: What do you believe is good design?
VM: Good design is to create a functional room that reflects the owner’s taste. Personally, I feel that I’ve accomplished a good design when clients left their comfort zones and got enough courage to try something new and creative.
CH: Where is your favorite place to shop or get ideas?
VM: I like to browse Houzz, Remodelista, Lonny and Rue Magazines, but I also have some favorite Brazilian sites.
CH: Why did you decide to participate in the 2014 Parade of Homes?
VM: The Parade of Homes is a good place to create a room that reflects my own style and hopefully to give customers new ideas to be incorporated into their homes. It is also a great opportunity to work together with so many other great ASID designers.
